Camp Speers in the Poconos offers 1 and 2-week overnight sessions for campers ages 7- 17. We are committed to providing each camper a fun and exciting experience that will create lasting memories and friendships while helping them develop as leaders and cooperative community members. Camp life promotes the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Every activity, program, and experience is designed to help campers learn lifelong skills and develop self-confidence, independence, and cooperation.
One-Week Sessions One-week sessions provide campers the opportunity to select 3 activities to do every day. They go on an overnight camp-out and explore Speers’ pristine wilderness areas. Campers and families are invited to enjoy a Pick-Up Family Festival and BBQ Friday afternoon.
Two-Week Sessions Two-week sessions offer all the fun and excitement of a one-week session and much, much more. During a two-week session, campers can select up to 6 activities they want to participate in while at camp. Campers also have the opportunity to explore the beautiful 1,100-acre property and the surrounding national recreation area, The Delaware Water Gap.
We select only the most caring and talented young adults to be role models for our campers. Camp Speers’ staff participate in wilderness training courses, receive certifications for the skills they teach, and attend staff orientation and a week of intensive training. We interview and check references and backgrounds of each staff member before they are invited to join the Speers’ staff team.
Camp also employs a team of healthcare professionals who provide consistent care for our campers throughout the summer.
Each cabin has at least two counselors with a maximum staff to camper ratio of one-to-six. Camper cabins are located on the beautiful shores of Lake Nichecronk and are serviced by a village bathhouse.
Campers can choose their own activities as individuals and as a group. Coaching periods are 5-day activities that teach campers progressive skills throughout the week. Some examples are: kayaking, horseback riding, long distance swimming, mountain biking, outdoor living skills, and target sports, just to name a few. Prime Time gives each camper the chance to experience activities in our Speers Downtown area at their own pace. Cabin time provides the opportunity for each cabin to come together as a group and decide the activity they would like to do together.

We offer a salad bar at lunch and dinner daily and at breakfast campers can visit our fruit and cereal bar. Our culinary staff is always prepared to accommodate a variety of dietary needs and restrictions with advanced notice.
Special Events and Themes
Special Events and Themes are a huge part of Camp Speers’ traditions. In the evening, cabin groups work together to assemble a team of super heroes (counselors) or spend a week trying to survive a Zombie Take-Over. Session themes range from popular Disney and Pixar movies to our annual Red, White and Blue week, to celebrate the Fourth of July. Once a summer, campers are divided into teams for the ultimate Color Wars competition.
